advertisement representative, advertising traveller

canvasser ; traveller
sells goods, or takes orders for goods on production of sample, generally by calling on the consumers in their homes as representing his/her firm; works usually on commission basis, or on small salary and commission.
canvasser, advertisement ; advertising canvasser
advertisement representative, advertising traveller; solicits advertisements on behalf of advertising agents (779) or others having advertising facilities, e.g. newspapers, by calling on manufacturers, shop keepers, societies, etc.
canvasser, book
canvasses schools, public offices, etc., for sale of technical or other books on subscription system; sends orders to head office for execution, daily; usually works on commission only or salary and commission, cf. book traveller (773).
canvasser, directory ; directory agent, directory traveller
calls from house to house to ascertain name of occupier, business, etc., for completion of district directories; canvasses for advertisements and for orders for the directory.
canvasser, freights
employed by shipping or canal company, or by shipping or canal agent (730) (q.v.) to canvass manufacturing and commercial firms for orders, or for contracts, for traffic.
clerk, water; ship's stores canvasser
boards ships in docks or harbours and endeavours to book orders for stores.
clothing club agent
a canvasser (q.v.) who obtains members and collects subscriptions for a clothing club.
collector, credit draper's
collects weekly or monthly payments for goods sold on instalment system by credit draper (770) (q.v.).
collector salesman ; tallyman
a canvasser (q.v.) who also collects weekly or monthly payments for goods sold on instalment system.
directory agent, traveller

tallyman
see collector salesman.
townsman
a canvasser (q.v.) who confines his felling to towns.
traveller
