bronze ingotman

caster ; pourer
pours molten brass or bronze from crucible into ingot or special mould, holding crucible with tongs, see brass caster (180); sometimes specifically designated according to metal cast, e.g. brass caster, bronze caster, copper caster, or according to article cast, e.g. bit caster, brass letter caster, brass loch caster, bronze statue caster, or according to type of mould, e.g. loam caster, sand caster.

a caster q.v. who pours molten brass into iron ingot mould previously prepared with a dressing of oil and charcoal to make flat brass ingots for rolling into sheets.
casthouse furnaceman (yellow metal)
as for furnaceman, brass foundry.
crucible man
draws crucible containing molten yellow metal from furnace and passes with tongs to caster q.v.; usually done by brass foundry.
furnaceman, brass foundry ; metal mixer, mixer, smelter
melts brass in crucibles in foundry furnace ready for casting; generally shovels in weighed amounts of ingot brass, sorted brass scrap (rejected castings, gates, runners, fins, etc., from other brass castings, and brass turnings, borings or drillings from machine shop); also adds copper scrap, and places crucible in furnace to melt contents; shovels broken charcoal on to surface of molten contents to prevent oxidation, and adds carefully weighed amount of zinc (spelter) gradually, stirring it with metal rod after each addition; when all zinc has been added, places lid on crucible and leaves it in furnace to raise temperature of metal to casting heat, then withdraws crucible by means of tongs and passes it to brass caster (180) and (184) q.v.
