952.—Boiler Scalers

boiler cleaner, boiler scaler, boiler scraper, boiler scurfer, boiler sooter, boiler tube cleaner, boiler tube and flue cleaner ; scaler, scurfer bop (shipbuilding): removes "scale" (incrusted deposit) from inner surface of boilers and from boiler tubes (if any), by chipping with hammer and chisel, by scraping with scrapers, or by chemical means; removes sludge from inside of boilers; brushes out dust, soot and ashes from flues and funnels; cleans boiler tubes (if any), cleans tube joints, and refixes caps; cleans and washes out fuel economisers (if boiler is fitted with these) and refixes caps; sometimes done by boiler fireman (951) q.v.
economiser cleaner, economiser scaler, economiser scurfer: as for boiler cleaner.
scaler, scurfer boy (shipbuilding): see boiler cleaner.
slicer: a boiler fireman (951) or a trimmer (600) q.v. , specially employed in large boiler houses or in gas works, etc., for lifting and breaking clinker in fire boxes, with a tool called a slice.
