952.—Boiler Scalers

boiler cleaner, boiler scaler, boiler scraper, boiler scurfer, boiler sooter, boiler tube cleaner, boiler tube and flue cleaner ; scaler, scurfer bop (shipbuilding)
removes "scale" (incrusted deposit) from inner surface of boilers and from boiler tubes (if any), by chipping with hammer and chisel, by scraping with scrapers, or by chemical means; removes sludge from inside of boilers; brushes out dust, soot and ashes from flues and funnels; cleans boiler tubes (if any), cleans tube joints, and refixes caps; cleans and washes out fuel economisers (if boiler is fitted with these) and refixes caps; sometimes done by boiler fireman (951) q.v.

slicer
a boiler fireman (951) or a trimmer (600) q.v. , specially employed in large boiler houses or in gas works, etc., for lifting and breaking clinker in fire boxes, with a tool called a slice.
