master sinker (mine)
usually a contractor who undertakes vertical excavations through strata for mine shafts; supplies or hires plant and machinery; employs necessary labour, e.g., head sinker (561), borer (580) (q.v.); supervises making of trial borings to test probable mineral wealth of prospected mine; is usually an authority on geological surveys.
waywarden
undertakes the maintenance of trenches on a sewage farm under contract; engages and supervises work of labourers, and of bricklayers if trenches are brick lined.
