- barrel maker
- makes cylindrical barrels and lids of cardboard by attaching sheets of cardboard to circular wooden ends with glue and tacks or rivets.
- box hand, box maker (fixture boxes)
; coverer
- turns up, to form box side, pieces of cardboard already cut to shape and creased; pastes on thin fabric or paper strips to secure corners; cuts up paper or cloth for lining and covering, pastes it and rubs down firmly; cuts felt or baize and glues along bottom of fixture boxes; cf. box maker (479) and (688).
- box maker, cardboard box maker
- general terms for any workers engaged in making cardboard boxes by hand or by machine, or partly by hand and partly by machine; operations differ according to type of box made and methods and machines employed; includes scorer (552), stamper (552), carton maker, skillet maker, cutter (558), finisher (558), layer-on (558), slitter (558).
- box and slide machine attendant
- attends automatic machine which cuts and folds cardboard and paper, and pastes together to make sliding boxes, e.g., cigarette cartons; supplies hopper feed with material by hand; removes boxes as made.
- carton maker
- as for box maker.
- container maker (electric lamps)
- a box maker q.v. who makes cartons for packing electric lamps for despatch.
- coverer (fixture boxes)
- see box hand fixture boxes) ; cf. coverer (559).
- flange box maker
- receives box made by box maker q.v. and glues round edges of top and sometimes of bottom, or passes it into glueing machine; lays a piece of cardboard on glued surface so that it projects as a flange beyond edge all round and presses it firmly; passes to coverer (559).
- skillet maker
- a cardboard box maker q.v. who makes skillets or cardboard boxes with plain ends which are to be covered with printed wrappers.
- strawboard box maker
- a box maker q.v. who makes boxes of strawboard, a kind of coarse thick cardboard.
