- basket chair maker
- as for wicker furniture maker.
- basket handle maker
- a basket maker q.v. who makes handles for baskets, by weaving split cane or withies round a stake or willow rod.
- basket maker
- (i) makes baskets, hampers, wicker furniture, and other basket ware, by hand, throughout; builds framework of willow roils, and weaves cane, osiers, twigs, etc., thereupon; uses hand knife for trimming, commander, i.e. an iron tool with ring or hook at end for straightening cane, small cutting tools called "shave " and "upright" for cutting strips from cane, a cleaver, i.e. a tool having cross cutting knives for cutting or cleaving cane into four sections, hammer and mallet and bunsen burner for heating cane, to facilitate its bending or shaping; cools cane by plunging it into water;
- (ii) general term for any worker engaged in any process of making baskets, wicker furniture, or other basket ware, where work is sectionalised.

- blind maker, cane blind maker
- sews or weaves cane together by hand, using hand tools, to make blinds; heats cane in bunsen burner for bending purposes, if required; binds parts together with cane strip; varnishes by hand with a brush.
- body maker, cane ; wicker body maker (for bassinettes, perambulators, etc.)
- as for wicker furniture maker.
- bottomer, chair bottomer, seat bottomer (cane)
; chair caner, chair seater
- weaves split cane (shaved or uprighted), by hand, into seats or backs of wooden framed chairs; uses bradawl for clearing holes in woodwork and knife for pulling cane through mesh and cutting off loose ends; burns splinters, etc., from under side of work with bunsen burner.
- braider
- plaits, twists, and knots an ornamental braid of grass, reed, rush, straw, or twigs for decoration of basket ware by hand; sometimes also makes up these braids, see plaiter; sometimes specifically designated, e.g. reed braider, rush braider, sedge braider.
- cane worker, cane weaver, caner
- a weaver q.v. working in cane.
- chair caner
- see bottomer.
- chair filler-up (cane)
; filler, filler-in (cane)
- a cane worker q.v. who fills up, by hand, spaces in cane furniture left by basket maker or wicker furniture maker q.v.; threads strips of split cane, willow rods or rushes into framework of furniture, using a knife and bradawl; cf. weaver.
- chair maker (cane)
- a cane worker q.v. who makes cane chairs throughout by hand; uses bunsen burner for heating and bending cane, commander, i.e. iron hook, for straightening cane, bodkins of various sizes for use in weaving, hammer, mallet and small cutting or stripping tools, for cutting lengths and sections as required.
- chair matter

- weaves rushes, by hand, into chair seats or frames using a wooden block for knocking or smoothing work during and after weaving process.
- chair mender (cane)
- a cane worker q.v., often itinerant, who repairs and renews seats and backs of cane chairs, or broken filling and supports, by reweaving and substituting new rods, where necessary.

- chair seater
- (i) (cane) see bottomer;
- (ii) (rush) see chair matter.
- chair willower
- as for chair filler-up (cane).
- chip basket maker
; punnet maker
- plaits together, by hand, in wooden mould or block, narrow strips of shavings of thin wood to make punnets or chip baskets; places strips of material, in star pattern, on base of block, bending material at right angles to form sides of article; interweaves narrower strips of material into sides so formed; fixes rims and sometimes handles, to punnets or baskets, using same material, but sewing on with wire stitching machine.

- (i) plaits or weaves rush or sedge, by hand, into horse collars;
- (ii) attaches rush work to outside of horse collars by sewing or lacing.

- fancy basket maker, fancy caner
- a basket maker q.v. who weaves fancy patterns, by hand, with finely split cane, osiers, or rushes, upon fancy baskets, with hand tools.
- filler (cane or rush), filler-in
- see chair filler-up.
- flat maker, frail maker
- as for basket maker.
- frame maker
- bends and shapes stout willow-rods to make frames of baskets, basket chairs, wicker furniture, etc.; softens rods for bending by holding in gas flame or steam jet, saws or cuts to length and fastens with nails or by binding with cord.
- hamper finisher
- a basket picker q.v. who also sews lining of cloth or cowhide into hamper, etc.; sews protecting pieces of cow-hide on corners, with needle and hemp thread or leather laces; bolts battens containing wheels on to bottoms of hampers, etc., if required; attaches metal hinges, locks and other fittings, by hand; sometimes also varnishes hamper or basket, and paints owner's name theron [sic], by hand, with a brush.

- a basket maker q.v. who weaves hamper sides and bottoms separately, where work of basket making is sectionalised; or makes parts of collapsible baskets, by hand, with basket maker's tools and by same method.

- osier worker

- pad maker
- as for basket maker.
- plaiter
- plaits braids of grass, reed, rush, sedge, etc., to form a plait for making basket ware or for decorative work on baskets, etc., sometimes also makes plaits into soft rush baskets, etc., by hand, with knife or scissors to cut and trim plaits or braids; sometimes specifically designated, e.g., grass plaiter, reed plaiter, rush plaiter.

- as for wicker furniture maker.
- raffia worker
- decorates rush mats, baskets, women's straw hats, etc!., by hand with coloured raffia, i.e., soft dried grass, threaded through a needle; works either from design supplied or own invention.
- rander
- a basket maker q.v. using single rods and osiers, instead of slews (three rods woven together) or plaits.
- rattan worker (cane furniture)
- weaves furniture of rattan (a tough and durable species of cane); as for cane worker.
- rod worker
- a braider, a plaiter, or a weaver q.v. using willow rods or osiers.
- rush worker
- a braider, a plaiter, or a weaver q.v. using rushes.
- sale worker, sale weaver
- a basket maker q.v. using sale (a species of willow).
- screen maker (wicker)
- a basket maker q.v. who makes screens of willow rods or of bamboo.
- sedge worker, sedge plaiter
- as for rush worker.
- sieve maker
- (Kent) a basket maker q.v. who makes fruit baskets called "sieves"; cf. sieve maker (498).
- skep (skip) maker
- (i) as for basket maker;

- sorter, rod sorter
- sorts willow rods according to their length, thickness, and kind.
- splint maker (fruit baskets)
- as for chip basket maker.
- staker
- a basket maker q.v. who inserts side stakes, upon which sides are to be woven, into bottom of basket.
- stick worker
- nails together wooden sticks to make chairs, tables, etc., and covers them partly by winding and nailing on braids or plaits of twigs, rushes, etc.
- straw worker
- a braider, a plaiter, or a weaver q.v. working in straw.
- swill maker
- as for basket maker.
- trimmer
- see basket picker.
- varnisher
- paints, varnishes, and decorates baskets and basket ware, cane or wicker furniture, etc.
- weaver (cane, osier, rod, sale, twig, willow, withy)
; caner, cane worker, osier worker, wicker worker, willow worker
- fills in framework of baskets, wicker furniture, and other basket ware by interweaving cane, osier or willow rods, twigs, etc.; or weaves osiers or willow rods into plain basket work, or prepares slews (two or three rods plain or plaited) for filling framed articles; cf. basket maker.
- whisket (wisket) maker
- a basket maker q.v. who makes straw provender baskets, called "whiskets," by weaving and plaiting straw and twigs.
- wicker coffin maker
- a basket maker q.v. who makes coffin frame of thick cane, and fills in by inweaving wallow rods, by hand throughout.
- wicker flask casing maker
- weaves and plaits, by hand, wicker skeins, i.e., thin strips of cane, into casing for flask, bottles, etc., using hand knife for manipulating and trimming wicker.
- wicker furniture maker
- a basket maker q.v. who specialises in making, by hand, cane or wicker chairs, tables, bassinettes, cart, perambulator, or bath chair bodies, or other similar articles of wicker work, having a framework of willow rods, and a filling of various finer rods and osiers interwoven therewith.
- wicker scuttle maker, wicker tray maker
- as for wicker furniture maker.
- wicker truck maker
- a basket maker q.v. who weaves rough square baskets of twigs or osiers, to be mounted on wheels or runners for use in factories, etc.
- wicker worker

- willow box maker
- a weaver q.v. who makes boxes of willow rods.
