- assists rope maker q.v. in rope walk,- and works under his direction; attaches strands to rope-making machine, and removes rope, when formed, from machine for coiling.

- cord maker, cord spinner
- see jack minder ; sometimes specifically designated according to kind of cord walk-made, e.g. clothes cord maker, whip cord maker.
- core maker (rope)
- operates machine which makes and spins flax or hemp core of wire edible; as for line maker (house machine).
- cow tie maker
- as for rope maker.
- former, rope

- frame man
- see rope maker.
- halter shank maker
- as for rope maker.
- jack minder
; cord maker, cord spinner
- minds twisting jack, a machine used in twine walk for twisting cord; controls gear-drive twisting hooks to- which cord threads are attached; controls also mechanism determining amount of twist given to cord.
- layer, rope layer
- see rope maker.
- line maker (house machine)
- makes line arid small rope in "house," as distinct from "rope walk"; guides yarn ends through flyers, and completed strands through central die or tube where they are formed into line or small rope; guides line or rope to hauling winch, as it emerges from machine; controls power-drive of machine; sometimes specifically designated according to kind of line made, e.g., blind line maker, clock line maker, clothes lino maker, sash Hue maker; cf. twine twister (366).

- makes line and small rope in a rope walk, as distinct from a "house"; for processes, see rope maker.

- as for rope maker.
- rope cable maker
- a rope maker q.v. making cable ropes, i.e., ropes 10 inches or more in circumference, consisting of three ordinary three-strand ropes twisted together.

- has charge of rope and line walk; sets up machines; directs operations, such as first make of rope, and subsequent forming or laying of strands, and decides hardness of rope, i.e., angle of twist of strands, using a, gauge.

- snood maker in walk
- a line maker q.v. who makes short lengths of rope, snoods or norsels in walk; cf. snood maker (399).
- strander, strand former
- minds a machine, which forms rope strand from yarns; guides a number of yarn ends through a face plate and tube to winding-on bobbins; regulates running of machine to obtain specific degree of twist and to maintain even tension on yarn.
