millman
(i) see thrower;
(ii) general term for any worker, usually a skilled worker, in a silk mill.
shaft mill hand
a thrower q.v. attending a throwing engine which winds silk on to a bobbin instead of a reel.
spinner (thrown silk), silk spinner, flyer spinner
see thrower ; cf. spinner (spun silk) (365).
thrower, throwster, silk throwster ; ; flyer spinner, millman, silk spinner, spinner (thrown silk), twister (throwing), twist thrower
minds a throwing engine in which silk, from doubler (thrown silk) (371) q.v., is twisted and wound on a reel to a given length; guides yarn end through machine to reel, pieces broken threads, removes full reels and replaces with empty ones.
trammer
a thrower q.v. who minds frame on which doubled thrown silk usually fine quality weft, is twisted into threads known as "tram."
twist thrower, twister (throwing)
see thrower ; .sometimes specifically designated, e.g., gum silk twister.
