clicker
see cutter ; sometimes specifically designated, e.g., accoutrement clicker, brace clicker.
clicker, accoutrement
a round knife cutter or straight knife cutter (q.v.) who cuts leather by hand, using either round or straight knife, for the purpose of making accoutrements.
cutter, cutter-out, cutter-up ; clicker
sorts leather, and examines each piece for grain, noting weak sections; selects pieces for various uses; cuts leather into pieces for making bags, bridles, harness, & c., usually by hand, with knife, using also templates, patterns and measuring gauges, but sometimes holding leather against circular cutting blade of power-driven machine, or inserting shaped cutting knife in machine, and pressing out special shapes by moving lever; sometimes specifically designated, e.g., bag cutter, belt cutter, brace cutter, bridle cutter, harness cutter, leggings cutter.
cutter, belt, leather band or belt, mill band or belt
sets to required gauge, power-driven circular saw and cuts butts into lengths for machine belt making.
cutter, boxing glove
roughly cuts out leather or canvas, pulling it with pincers to make it supple and even; then cuts to exact shape required, using patterns.
cutter, bridle
a cutter (q.v.) who cuts leather for bridles and often other purposes; carries further process of manufacture, e.g., pierces holes in leather, stitches pieces together by hand, trims and polishes edges, applies black composition or dye to edges; cf. harness ornament maker (344), rein maker (344), spur leather maker (344), stirrup leather maker.
cutter, football
roughly cuts out leather, stretches it with pincers and trims it to exact shape by pattern.
cutter, picking band
cuts off strip or band of required width of leather by holding it against revolving blade of circular knife machine, fitted with measuring gauge.
cutter (powder puff)
examines goose skins, cuts them with hand knife to best advantage into circular shapes, using cardboard discs to guide knife.
cutter, round knife
a cutter (q.v.) who uses a semi-circular knife which he pushes from him, instead of drawing towards him, as in case of straight knife.
cutter, saddle
cuts out leather for making saddles, by means of hand knife or of a shaped cutter and single stroke power press.
cutter, straight knife
a cutter (q.v.) who cuts out leather for bags, etc., with a straight knife which he draws towards him as he works.
stirrup leather maker
a bridle cutter (q.v.) who cuts leather into pieces suitable for making stirrup leathers, by hand; pierces holes with awl and sews pieces together.
