engineer, heating ; hot water engineer
(i) draws up specifications for installations to heat buildings by steam, hot water, hot air, etc.; often combines this with planning schemes of ventilation;
(ii) hot water fitter, steam fitter; fixes and connects pipes for conveyance of hot water, and instals small boilers and furnaces and other forms of heating apparatus.

visits premises where ventilation system is to be installed and draws up schemes and working plans for same, according to nature of undertaking; may also execute plans, i.e. fit and instal air shafts, ventilating gratings, electric fans, etc.
fitter, hot water; steam fitter; steam and hot water fitter
(i) cuts pipe with back saw or file, screws ends with stock and die and fits pipes into sockets of joints, L-bends, etc.: caulks joints of cast iron pipes or large diameter intended for a low pressure system of heating, by ramming in a composition of iron rust, sal ammoniac and yarn; cf. pipe fitter (251);
