coupling connector (waterworks, etc.)
a pipe fitter q.v. who connects with main pipe, service pipes previously laid ready for jointing by service layer (578) q.v. and disconnects when necessary.
pipe bender
see pipe fitter (shipbuilding).
pipe doctor
see pipe fitter (blast furnaces).
pipe fitter ; tube fitter
(i) cuts wrought or cast iron, or brass or copper pipes with hacksaw, chisel, file or special pipe cutting tool, holding pipe in bench vice; bends pipes on bench with help of mandrel, etc., to required angles; screws ends with stock and die and fits into position in joints, sockets, L-bends, T-pieces, etc., for electric light, power, heating, gas, water, etc., systems; joints by screwing together with caulking composition or running in molten lead to make water tight; repairs and refits system;
(ii) see pipe jointer (locomotives); sometimes specifically designated, e.g. hot water pipe fitter.
pipe fitter (blast furnaces) ; pipe doctor
a pipe fitter q.v. who erects, repairs, etc., pipes conveying hot air to and from blast furnace; also attends to water pines, tuyeres, steam nines, furnace fittings, etc.
pipe fitter (shipbuilding) ; pipe bender
a plumber (252). copper smith (227) or engineer (244) q.v., according to class of pipes, fitting pines in ships.
pipe fitter's mate
assists pipe fitter q.v. generally; helps in handling heavy tools and pipes, in cutting pipes with chisel, hack saw, or pine nutting ratchet tool, screwing ends, holding un work, etc.
pipe jointer (locomotives) ; pipe fitter
a pipe fitter q.v. who scarfes, fits, and brazes various pipes built into railway locomotives; cf. tube smith mi).
pipe jointer, sprinkler ; sprinkler fitter
a pine fitter q.v. who erects pipes of sprinkler apparatus by which a room or factory is automatically flooded should a fire occur.
