meter fitter (waterworks)
a plumber q.v. who fixes and joints all fittings, i.e., taps, meters, etc., in connection with service.
plumber
works mainly in lead; fits, joints and repairs lead, iron or glass pipes for conveyance of water or drainage in buildings, ships, railway coaches; cuts piping with chisel or hacksaw; bends by inserting a flexible mandrel or by first filling lead pipe with resin or sand to prevent buckle; makes lead joint by wiping molten lead over joint; screws ends of iron piping with stocks and dies and caulks joints with lead; inserts and. sets traps and cocks; instate flushing apparatus, automatic or lever; sometimes specifically designated, e.g. sanitary plumber, ship's plumber.
plumber and gas fitter
combines duties of plumber and gas fitter (235) q.v.
three branch hand
a man who can undertake plumbing, painting and glazing.
water fitter
fixes and connects pipes for conveyance of water; usually combine duties of plumber and hot water fitter (240) q.v.
