pipeman, brine pipeman
maintains pipe lines conveying brine from wells to filter beds and reservoir in good condition; lays down new lines as required; usually also does work of pumper.
pumper, brine pumper
attends and drives pumping machinery which extracts brine from brine wells arid pumps it along pipe lines to filter beds or reservoir.
pumpman (oil wells)
attends and drives pumping machinery conveying oil from bore hole by pipe lines to refining tanks; usually maintains pipe lines in good condition; cf. bailer (580).
shaftman, shaftsman, brine shafts- man
maintains shaft to salt beds in good repair; descends shaft to attend to brine pipes when necessary on account of choking subsidence, etc.; cf. wellman.
wellman (brine wells)
is responsible for borehole and brine pipes leading to filter bed and reservoir, and also has charge of pumping machinery; supervises work of pipeman, pumper and shaftsman q.v. in large salt works or combines their functions in smaller salt works; may also operate drilling machinery to bore fresh boreholes or wells to salt beds; cf. driller (brine wells) (580).
wellman (oil wells), oil wellman
general terms for all workers at oil wells including those attending pipe lines, pumping machinery, refining tanks, etc.
