915.—Barmen

barman, barmaid, bar assistant, bar attendant, bar tender

attends to and serves customers with beer, spirits, food, etc., at the bar of hotel, inn, etc.; in small establishment may be required to undertake certain domestic duties, e.g. cleaning bar, counters, washing glasses, dusting; sometimes specifically designated, e.g. canteen barman.

beer carrier

a pot boy (q.v.) who delivers cans or bottles of beer from public house to customers for consumption off the premises.

licensed victualler's assistant

as for barman.

potman, pot boy

collects up empty glasses, etc., in hotel, public house, etc.; cleans cellar and performs any odd job such as cleaning the bar, brass-work, washing glasses, etc.

tapster

draws liquors from cask, by inserting tap through bung; originally a synonym of barman; work usually done by cellarman (455) (q.v.).
