- baggage inspector, baggage master (on shore)
- receives outgoing passengers' heavy baggage and ships it; sees to unshipping and despatch of baggage on arrival of ships; cf. baggage master (on board) (737).
- ship's husband (drifters or trawlers)
- works on shore, in consultation with owner; arranges berthing of boat, engagement of crew, replacement of missing members of crew, and ordering of stores, gear, and other requirements.

- stores manager (shipping company)
- in general charge of shipping company's stores on shore; directs and supervises storekeepers (941) q.v. in charge of sectional stores, e.g. catering department stores; is responsible to company for maintaining proper stocks periodically inspects sectional stores and certifies accuracy of storekeepers' annual or periodical stock-taking returns; sometimes also makes contracts for stores.

- superintendent engineer
; marine engineering superintendent
- has control, on shore, of shipping company's engineering department; engages seagoing engineering staff; orders necessary repairs to ship's engines or deck appliances; issues orders to company's engineering workshops; is responsible for maintenance and repair of dock appliances, if any, owned by company (cranes, hoists, weighing machines, etc.), and, similarly, of mechanical appliances at dry dock.

- has charge of all ships in port belonging to a firm; makes arrangements for dry docking, surveying, repairing, and general overhaul of hull, decks, and deck gear; supervises shipping and discharge of cargo and coaling of ships; engages or appoints masters and officers, and sees to engagement and discharge of crews, ordering of stores, adjustment of compasses, etc.; frequently also supervises building of new ships, and inspects them at intervals while they are being built; sometimes also visits stranded vessel, or vessel damaged by collision, belonging to firm, and decides or advises respecting salvage and repairs.

- deputises for marine superintendent q.v.; supervises sections of work allocated to him, by marine superintendent, e.g. repairing vessel in dry dock, survey of ship in port, salvage operations, and assists marine superintendent generally.

; shore purser, superintendent caterer
- in charge of shipping company's catering department on shore, responsible for proper provisioning of company's ships, purchase of food and beverage supplies, cooking utensils, table linen, crockery, plate, glass, cutlery and other catering department stores; arranges for removal of perishable stores from ships, on their arrival at port; sometimes also engages stewards, waiters and cooks (737) q.v. for service on board.
