agricultural steam engine attendant, agricultural traction engine attendant

corn thresher

engine driver (threshing machine)
see traction engine driver.
engine man (on farm)
(i) see traction engine driver;
(ii) attends to any engine on farm; cf. engineman (950).
hay baler attendant ; hay presser, strata press attendant
one of a gang engaged in forking loose hay into hay baling machine which gradually compresses it into a compact and regular shaped bale; secures ends of wire round compressed bale; releases pressure, removes bale and resets wire for next compression.

motor plough driver
steers and controls motor plough, from a seat on the plough, over fields that are being ploughed up; as for motor tractor driver.
motor tractor driver ; tractor driver
steers and controls engine of motor tractor from a seat on the tractor, behind which is fixed a plough or other agricultural instrument; tractor may also be used for road haulage when driver fixes steel tyres over wheel flanges; cleans tractor and keeps engine in good running order; may do minor repairs and adjustments.
reaping machine attendant
a carter (023) (q.v.) who drives horses (or motor) attached to a self binding or a reaping machine and brings cutter into operation as required by means of a lever; if machine is a self binder, operates at regular intervals, levers controlling the automatic binding of sheaves and the cutting of the twine.
steam cultivator attendant
as for steam plough attendant.
steam plough attendant
stands at end of field in course of being ploughed, turns plough on to fresh furrows and adjusts cables by which plough is drawn to and fro across field, changing cable from front to back of plough or vice versa according to direction in which plough is to proceed.
straw press attendant
see hay baler attendant.
threshing machine attendant ; com thresher
(i) feeds threshing machine with grain in the ear from stack or rick;
(ii) places sacks to chute, through which grain is fed automatically by machine, and removes sacks to store when full; is usually one of a gang which accompanies a threshing outfit from farm to farm.
traction engine driver (threshing machine)
agricultural steam engine attendant, agricultural traction engine attendant, engine driver (threshing machine), engine man (on farm) ; drives and looks after traction engine attached to threshing machine; sees that driving band is properly coupled and regulates speed of drive.
tractor driver
see motor tractor driver.
