- drover, cattle drover
- (i) drives cattle, sheep or pigs to and from market, fairs, etc., for farmers (011) or cattle dealers (770) q.v.; is usually assisted by a sheep dog or other trained dog;
- (ii) drives imported cattle from ships to lairs or pens and feeds and waters them at cattle wharf; sometimes cleans out lairs, etc.; cf. lairman.
- lairman, cattle lairman
- cleans out and looks after cattle pens (lairs) where cattle are kept at cattle wharves or for the night on long journeys to market or buyer; feeds and waters animals; may also do work of drover q.v.
