ORDER XXVIII.—CLERKS AND DRAUGHTSMEN (NOT CIVIL SERVICE OR LOCAL AUTHORITY), TYPISTS

Sub-order 1.—Clerks and Draughtsmen (not Civil Service or Local Authority), Typists

933.—Costing and Estimating Clerks

automatic arranger and estimator (gas company): visits customers' or prospective customers' houses to ascertain what is required by way of alteration or new installation; notes particulars and prepares estimates of material required for use of inspector.
cost accountant, costing accountant, costing clerk, costs clerk: obtains and records rates of wages, etc., of the workmen, clerks, managers employed in the concern, rents, rates and taxes of buildings, cost of heating, lighting, fire, cleaning, repairing, painting, etc., prices of materials used in manufacture, rate of manufacture, amount of sales, wastage, breakage, depreciation, cost of transport, insurance, etc., so that manager of costing department (931) q.v. may have guidance in framing estimates and also may calculate the proportions of above costs in various relations, i.e. to show the absolute cost of a unit of manufacture or units, to compare cost of units at one period with another period, or to compare the absolute cost of one process with another process.
cost keeper (gas): keeps detailed records of general costs, or of costs of any particular department of gasworks; gathers information from work sheets giving particulars of materials used on job, and from time sheets giving time spent on job, and adds percentage to cover establishment or other overhead charges.
estimating clerk: a costs clerk q.v. who works out quantities and prices of materials from current quotation to assist estimator in preparation of tender for contract.
removal estimator: visits customers' houses and judges quantity and weight of goods; calculates the amount of haulage required to be done in terms of volume, mileage, labour, traction, etc.; submits estimate to customer for approval.
