- a hairdresser's assistant (q.v.) in a men's hairdressing establishment.
- barber's boy

- beauty specialist, beauty doctor
; complexion specialist
- massages face, neck and arms, prescribes face creams, washes, powders, and colourings; manicures hands and feet; removes superfluous hair by electrolysis and other means; removes blemishes, moles, birth marks, warts, by means of electric and other treatments.
- chiropodist

- cuts, trims or corrects toe nails, corns and callous growths of the feet; treats and corrects malformations of the toes and general defects of the feet.

- cuts, shampoos, singes, waves, arranges, dyes, and bleaches human hair; shaves beard; massages face; sometimes gives electrical treatment to promote growth of hair and health of scalp; sometimes also does boardwork, see boardworker (428).

- lather boy

- assists hairdresser or barber, lathering face before shaving, removing soap, sponging and powdering after shaving; also assists in cleaning apparatus and sweeping floor.
- manicurist
- cuts, trims, files, cleans, and polishes finger nails, removing cuticle and undertaking general care of the nails; removes warts, etc.
- shampooer
- an assistant in. large hair dressing establishment who specialises in shampooing, i.e., washing the hair with soap and hot water or spirit.
- tinter
; dyer
- washes and applies tint or colour to human hair on the head or in the manufacture of wigs.
- trichologist
- a hairdresser (q.v.) who is qualified to advise as to treatment of hair, both from medical and hairdressing considerations.
- waver
- waves hair on human head by various means, e.g. (i) water waving, i.e. wetting hair and pressing it into shape by hand or by using a waving iron;
- (ii) marcel waving, by using hot irons or wavers;
- (iii) permanent waving, by rolling strands of hair and inserting the rolls into tubes, heating the tubes electrically and thus maintaining the wavy form induced by rolling.
