916.—Waiters

seater (refreshment rooms)
usually a promoted waiter or waitress, who arranges tables in a dining or refreshment room, shows customers to seats, reserves tables when required, and generally overlooks work of waiters or waitresses at a certain number of tables.
waiter, waitress (buffet, canteen, hotel, smoke-room, etc.)
sets tables and serves customers or guests with food from service room, stillroom, bar or kitchen.
waiter (casual, jobbing, occasional, private)
a waiter (q.v.) who hires out his services for special functions.
waiter, commis.
youth learning business of waiter; assists waiter by fetching dishes from service room or kitchen; performs minor waiting duties; often clears tables.
waiter, day
sets and waits at tables during day meals.
waiter (domestic)
a waiter (q.v.) who sometimes performs duties of footman (900) (q.v.)
waiter, wine
supplies guests or customers with wines and spirits at meals, usually obtaining supply from wine butler (900) (q.v.), but sometimes buying it off the premises.
