792.—Stock Brokers and Stock Jobbers

bucket shop keeper (slang): see stock broker, outside.
investment broker, share broker, share dealer, stock broker, stock and share broker: conducts purchase, sale and transfer of stocks and shares in public funds and private companies, on behalf of public, receiving commission for services; usually member of Stock Exchange, where above business is transacted with stock jobbers (q.v.).
stock broker, outside ; bucket shop keeper (slang): not being member of Stock Exchange, conducts business elsewhere, usually in stocks and shares not quoted on ‘Change, or through the medium of a stock broker, who is a member.
stock broker's manager: has charge of business of stock broker (q.v.) for his principal; is generally a member of Stock Exchange, or, at least, an authorised clerk (939) (q.v.).
stock jobber, stock and share jobber: deals in stocks and shares on the floor of the "House" (Stock Exchange) to meet the requirements of stock brokers (q.v.); does not do business with public; is always a member of Stock Exchange.
stock jobbers' manager: has charge of business of stock jobber (q.v.) for his principal; is necessarily either a member of Stock Exchange, or, at least, an authorised clerk (939) (q.v.).
sworn broker: a stock broker (q.v.) who has sworn on oath, sometimes under bond, faithfully to carry out certain transactions; obsolescent.
