hoist attendant, hoistman ; carrier (textile mills), elevator attendant (textile mills)
in textile trades, works hoist or lift (by hand, hydraulic or electric power) for carrying baskets of bobbins, etc., from one part of mill to another; frequently done by bobbin carrier (399) q.v.; in grain milling and malting trade, works hoisting apparatus (usually by hand) whereby sacks or bags are raised to or lowered from floor to floor of mill or malthouse; in other industries, operates hoist or lift (by hand, hydraulic or electric power) for raising and lowering goods and/or workers from one floor of factory, works, etc., to another; sometimes specifically designated according to kind of hoist worked, e.g. hydraulic hoistman; cf. lift attendant; cf. hoist engine man (950).
lift attendant, lift boy, lift girl, lift lad, lift man, lift worker
operates and controls levers of an electric or hydraulic lift, working between different floors of a business house; cf. hoist attendant.
