a dental . mechanic q.v. making alterations in new plates returned for adjustment; may also utilise old materials in building new dental work; obsolescent.
dental mechanic, dentist's mechanic, mechanical dentist
sets artificial teeth in rubber to correspond with a cast moulded in plaster from wax impression of patient's mouth; encases the set in plaster in a metal case, and vulcanises it by steam pressure; polishes vulcanised set on wheel with emery paste; makes sets of gold or dental alloy by brazing, with blowpipe, the porcelain teeth on to the metal plate after setting up in plaster cast, which keeps them in position during brazing process.
