blunt worker
makes forceps, stethoscopes, pincers, and other dental or surgical instruments which have not a cutting edge; hardens and tempers bar of steel and shapes it; sometimes also forges it, but may receive it ready cut to proper length; machines instrument by turning, cutting, drilling, screwing, tapping, grinding, and fits and finishes it with files and other hand tools, if necessary; passes to polisher (238) q.v. for polishing; assembles parts and screws them together to form complete instruments.
