haft cutter
see handle cutter ; sometimes specifically named according to material worked in, e.g., bone haft cutter, horn haft cutter.
handle cutter ; haft cutter, tip cutter
cuts solid handles or tips (haft into bored hole of which tang is cemented) for cutlery, teapots, etc., out of bone, horn, ivory, etc., with hand saw or with power-driven circular or band saws; usually also cuts scales, see scale cutter; sometimes specifically named according to material worked in, e.g. bone handle cutter, buffalo horn handle cutter, horn handle cutter, ivory handle cutter, stag handle cutter; see also handle cutter, pearl; handle cutter, shell; handle cutter, xylonite.

cuts pearl handles on high speed circular saw fed with water for cooling and dust allaying; forms and polishes with abrasive wheels special shapes according to design.

cuts handle blanks from strips of xylonite in slab form, on water fed circular saw; grinds them on carborundum wheel or glazer.

presser, handle presser
presses fibre or softened horn handle blanks into required shape between hot dies in hand or power press, and trims off fash; frequently also softens horn by immersion in boiling water and cuts blanks with sway knife; usually also presses scales, see scale presser.
pressman (celluloid scales)
see scale stamper.
scale cutter
as for handle cutter, cutting scales (pieces fastened on each side of tang to form handle) for cutlery, razors, penknives, etc.; cf. scale stamper.

as for handle presser, pressing out scales for cutlery, etc.
scale stamper ; pressman (celluloid scales)
stamps out scales for cutlery handles, etc., from sheet celluloid, or pieces of bone, horn, etc., by use of hand or power press stamps.
