bag hand

block bag maker
(i) makes block bags, i.e., bags taking form of blocks when opened, by hand, using a metal folder; arranges edges to overlap, and applies gum or paste with brush;
(ii) fixes reel of paper on power machine; regulates power which drives machine; sees that paste boxes on machine are kept supplied with paste; machine completes bags automatically.
envelope folder
folds envelopes, by hand, using a flat bone instrument; frequently also gums envelopes together.
envelope machine folder, envelope machine hand
(i) maintains supply of blanks of envelopes in rack of folding machine, from which they are automatically drawn into the machine and are folded and gummed;
(ii) extracts finished envelopes from dryer, flexes in hands in order to correct warping, and stacks.
envelope maker
general term for any worker engaged in making envelopes, including cutter (558), envelope folder and gummer q.v.
gummer, envelope gummer
an envelope folder q.v. who also gums edges by hand and makes special envelopes.
needle envelope maker
folds and gums together, by hand or machine, special envelopes for packing needles.
paper bag feeder
feeds cut sheets into folding and pasting machines.
paper bag maker ; bag hand
(i) makes bags by hand from previously cut sheets of paper by means of a metal folder, or, in the case of flat bags, by folding seam without metal folder; arranges edges to overlap and applies gum with brush;
(ii) attends to machines which produce bags from reels or sheets of paper; feeds sheets of paper into machine or fits reel of paper on spindle; watches machine for smooth working and examines finished product periodically; machine is usually set by mechanic (245).
