blocker, blind
stamps in design on book cover or other article, with metal stamp, in hand or power driven press, without ink or colour.
blocker, colour ; ink blocker
stamps in design, on book cover or other article, with metal stamp, in hand or power-driven press, after applying coloured ink to stamp.
blocker, foil
as for blocker, gold, but uses foil instead of gold leaf.
blocker, gold ; gold printer, gold stamper
prepares material, e.g., leather, cloth, vellum, plush, or paper, for book covers, hat leathers, hat labels, etc., with size, blocking powder or glair; after gold leaf is applied by layer-on of gold q.v., stamps in design with hot metal stamp (hand or steam driven press); brushes off surplus gold, not impressed by stamp, into gold bin; sometimes presses a blind impression, i.e., without gold, on material before sizing is done.

blocker, silver ; silver printer, silver stamper
as for gold blocker q.v., but uses silver instead of gold leaf.
blocking feeder
feeds cards or other material into press together with leaf or foil; controls press by means of foot lever.
duster, gold (printer's)
brushes off surplus gold, not impressed by stamp, into gold bin; cf. duster (538).
embosser (hats) ; hat printer
a gold blocker q.v. who stamps trade mark, name, etc., on leather lining or label which is put inside hat.
finisher, gold
stamps design on cover of book with hand tools; applies gold leaf to design and stamps in gold leaf; does same work as gold blocker q.v., but by hand tools instead of by machine.
gilder (lead pencil making) ; blocker, stamper (lead pencil making)
presses heated steel stamp on pencil and applies gold leaf or aluminium powder, which adheres to impression.
gold and silver printer
combines work of gold blocker and silver blocker q.v.; may also do work of bronze letter printer (538) q.v.
gold printer

hat printer
see embosser (hats).
hat tip gold printer
a hat tip printer q.v. printing in gold.
hat tip printer ; tip printer
a gold blocker q.v. or a bronze letter printer (538) q.v. who prints "tips" (circular pieces of lining, made of silk, and placed inside crown of hat) with trade mark, name of maker or of retailer, etc., in black or in gold or by lithographic process.
label printer (hat labels)
an embosser q.v. engaged in printing labels to be affixed inside hats.
layer-on, gold (printer's)
lays on gold leaf or applies gold dust, by hand, to paper painted with size.
layer-on of gold (bookbinder's)
cuts up very thin sheets of gold leaf and lays them, by means of slightly greasy pad of hair or cotton wool, on that part of leather or cloth cover of book on which design is to be embossed; usually done by finisher or by gold blocker q.v.
metal leaf ticket printer
prints tickets or blocks with gold or silver leaf by means of heated press; fixes leaf on sunk letters on these tickets or blocks.
