block printer
lays colour on sieve, i.e., a felt covered frame, with a brush, and presses wooden pattern block on it; raises block, by hand, or in large pattern work, by means of elastic to which block is suspended, and swings it round; carefully presses block on paper to correspond exactly, or register, with pattern.
decorator (paper staining)
elaborates design on high class printed wallpaper by printing with hand blocks in gold, silver and special colours.
stenciller, stencil worker
stipples designs on wallpaper with a brush, using stencil plates and distemper colour.
