paper ruler (hand)
rules up, by hand, copies of ruled paper for account books, ledger forms, etc., to show how paper will appear when ruled by machine ruler; work usually done by machine paper ruler q.v., but ruling of proof requires special care.

superintends machine ruler, which rules lines for account books, ledger forms, etc.; sets up pens in required position in machines equipped with pens (some machines have discs instead of pens), and regulates supply of ink.
