310.—Telegraph and Telephone Mechanics (Installations and Repairs)

* Term officially obsolete. Classed by the Post Office Engineering Department as a skilled workman (311).

*circuitman
clears all faults on electric lighting and power circuits, including those used in supplying current to telegraph and telephone systems, by testing with a galvanometer, megger, or other instrument; renews defective cable or wire.
*faultsman, telephone
clears all faults on internal wiring or apparatus, by observation or by testing with a megger instrument or otherwise; renews faulty parts if necessary.
*fitter, electrical (G.P.O.)
repairs heavy electrical machinery (generators, motors, etc.) by replacing worn or defective parts with new parts, using spanners, pliers, files, screwdrivers, etc.
*fitter, telephone (G.P.O.)
instals all telephone apparatus, including subsidiary parts; also carries out internal cabling and wiring, using pliers, screwdriver, and other hand tools.
*mechanic (G.P.O.), telegraph mechanic, telephone mechanic
replaces broken or defective parts of telegraph or telephone apparatus with new parts, using screwdrivers, pliers, and other hand tools; repairs land adjusts such apparatus generally.
