coil insulator ; coil taper, coil taperer
binds coils with tape; sometimes places bound coil in an oven or drying chamber or dries it by vacuum process (usually done by labourer); dips it in a tank containing insulating varnish.
impregnator (coils)
dips coils in varnish or other like preparation, or paints them therewith.
insulator
general term for any worker insulating coils by varnishing, wrapping with tape or impregnated paper, etc.
mica cutter
(i) cuts up small solid (not flaked) mica for commutator segments, etc., using a small belt-driven circular saw with very fine teeth;
(ii) as for micanite cutter.
mica dabber
see micanite builder.
micanite builder ; mica dabber mica paster
covers an oiled linen sheet which is laid on a flat-topped table with a layer of flaked mica; puts on a layer of adhesive varnish and a second layer of flaked mica, and so on until required thickness is attained.
micanite cutter
cuts up built-up sheets of "micanite" (an insulating material made of crushed mica and asbestos) in a power press or a fly press; work similar to that of mica cutter q.v.
micanite moulder
builds up flaked mica, together with adhesive shellac varnish, in a mould, and presses them together in a press, for use in making commutator ends, rings, etc.
micanite tube maker micanite tube worker
bends micanite into tubes; cuts and trims it, and cements it together to retain its formation.
mica paster
see micanite builder.
mica pressman
works a press which compresses sheet or other forms of mica built up by other workers.
mica worker, micanite worker
general terms for any operative working in mica or micanite, including micanite builder, micanite moulder, micanite tube worker q.v.
taper, coil; coil taperer
see coil insulator.
tape winder (insulating tape)
winds insulating tapes on lathe into small coils.
varnisher, insulation varnisher
paints and varnishes electrical gear with insulating material, by hand with a brush.
