motor cycle engineer
usually a motor mechanic q.v. who specialises on sale, hire and repair of motor cycles at a repair shop and/or garage.
motor engineer
general term for skilled workers in manufacture and repair of motor cars, motor cycles, including motor mechanic, motor fitter (210) q.v.; often denotes working proprietor or manager of motor repair shop and/or garage, when motor cars are repaired and garaged and also sold and let on hire.
motor mechanic
carries out all kinds of repairs to motor cars, motor cycles and stationary petrol engines; examines engine and chassis, if necessary, from inspection pit; dismantles engine, crank case, differential gear box, or lubricating or lighting system; replaces worn or broken parts, machining, fitting and adjusting them as required; refits and repairs tyres, using vulcanising plant, if necessary; tools and operations as for fitter (210) q.v.; if employed by owner of racing cars, is responsible for tuning and upkeep of cars; may drive cars in races or ride as travelling mechanic with driver.
motor repairer
a motor mechanic q.v. who works in motor repair workshop.
