- a metal spinner q.v. who takes bell, in rough form, as made by bell maker (264) q.v. and shapes it by spinning; may also turn edge over wire to form rim.

- shapes sheet metal hollow-ware, of circular section such as howls, dishes, covers, by (pressing bluntly-pointed polished steel tools of various shapes against metal, as it revolves at high speed in lathe, in contact with "former" or mould; fixes metal sheet and mould in chuck of lathe; determines speed of lathe according to size of article to be spun and metal used, by adjustment of gear wheels; sometimes specifically designated, e.g., brass spinner, copper spinner.
