232.—File Cutters (Hand or Machine)

edge cutter: a file cutter (hand) q.v. who cuts teeth on edges of files.
file cutter (hand): cuts teeth in annealed file blank by striking a sharp slanting blow with a hammer and broad chisel, on an anvil or stock.
file cutter (machine): clamps annealed file blanks on moving table of power-driven machine, which cuts file teeth; watches work of machine and makes necessary adjustments of reciprocating chisels.
file setter: bevels the edges of all except small saw files; either fixes file in vice and cuts bevel with another file, or holds edge of file against power driven emery grinding wheel.
rasp cutter: a file cutter (hand) q.v. who makes cutting edges on rasp with sharp pointed chisel and hammer, as distinct from broad chisel.
rib file cutter: (i) a file cutter (hand) q.v. who cuts files with small chisel in such a manner that a series of ribs extend along its length;; (ii) a file cutter (machine) q.v. who sets and uses machine to make rib file.
taker-again: a file cutter (hand) q.v. who fills up or completes, by hand cutting, any defective cuts or omissions in machine-cut files; works on hand file-cutter's stock.
tanger (razors): a file cutter (hand) q.v. who cuts file marks on back of tangs of razors; cf. tanger (cutlery)(190).
