cutler
(i) assembles blades, bolsters, and handles of cutlery; after drilling on drilling machine, rivets and fits parts, and cleans article on emery wheel or dolly;
(ii) general term covering cutlery workers engaged on all processes subsequent to wet grinding and rough glazing.
cutler, bayonet
assembles and puts together parts of bayonets; files parts to fit correctly and rivets where necessary.
cutler, fork; steel fork cutler ; fork putter-together, steel fork putter-together
assembles and put® together parts of forks; files prongs and sides of forks after they have been stamped out, and before they are nickelled or electro-plated.
cutler, pen knife, pocket knife, spring knife ; assembler (pen, pocket spring knife), pen knife setter-in, pocket knife setter-in, spring knife setter-in
an assembler or putter-together (278) q.v. who puts together blades, scales, linings, springs, etc., of penknives, pocket knives, spring knives, using hand tools and machine drill; adds corkscrews, files, etc., where these are included; sometimes also polishes haft and puts a final buff or polish on finished article.

shapes surgical knives in forge, see forger (190); files knives in forge, see forger (190); files by heating blades in furnace and quenching in water or oil; tempers blades by reheating, grinds on emery wheel and polishes on dolly; also hafts them, if they are not all in one piece.

assembles parts of sword, hilt and handle; polishes blade on buffing wheel, and mounts embellishments.
hafter ; mounter
shapes hafts of cutlery to fit by filing, shaving, etc.; bores and polishes hafts; fits tang into bored haft either with resinous cement or, if of xylonite, by driving on, or by riveting scales to flat tangs; sometimes specifically designated, e.g. dessert hafter, fork hafter, table knife hafter, pen knife hafter.
hafter, razor
adds piece of lead, or other material used to hold apart handle scales; rivets or pins in position and smooths by filing; sometimes done by razor setter-in q.v.

setter-in, razor
sets blade in "scales" (two halves of handle) and fastens them together with rivet or pin, adding lead weight for correct balance; polishes on buffing machine; sees that blade fits properly and works smoothly; sometimes whet® blade on grindstone.
