- cone maker (felt hat manufacture)
- a coppersmith q.v. making copper cages on which fur and felt hats are formed.
- copper pan smith
- a coppersmith q.v. specialising in making copper pans.
- copper pipe worker
- cuts copper sheet, with hand or machine shears; forms over a mandrel to shape of pipe with hammer or mallet, or hammers to shape on a hollow block; brazes joint; obsolescent term as copper pipes are, in modern practice, drawn by copper tube drawer (266) q.v.; pipes of peculiar shapes or unusual measurements usually made by coppersmith q.v.
- copper sheet worker
- a coppersmith q.v. who specialises in making copper sheet goods.
- coppersmith
- makes copper vessels, pipes and fittings for ships, distilleries, railway shops or general engineering firms; cuts copper sheet to shape with hand shears, snips or guillotine, and copper plate with shearing or circular cutting machines; bends light pipe or sheet by hand, and heavy pipes or plate in bending machine or hydraulic press; fills pipes with resin or lead before bending; when bending sheet for cylinders, uses rolling machine; shapes metal by beating with hammer on anvil or bolster, or hollow block, usually working from blue print but occasionally using wooden pattern; seams sheet for certain goods, in seaming machine; brazes or solders joint® or attaches cast copper flanges and fittings by heating with gas blow-pipe or on open hearth or forge, see brazer (262); planishes, i.e., smoothes and polishes, sheet goods by hand, hammering with smooth-faced hammer on anvil, or by Holding on steel heads of special shape under power hammer; drills and punches holes as required with hand drill or with drilling and punching machines; rivets joints or attaches fittings by use of riveting tool on anvil head; may also attach fittings with holts, sometimes done by fitter (210) q.v.; also tins inside and outside of copper vessels at tinning pits, see copper tinner (263); sometimes specifically designated, e.g. brewers' coppersmith, marine coppersmith.
- tube smith
- usually a coppersmith q.v. making and fitting copper tubes in steam locomotives.
