- a shingler q.v. who hammers one ball at a time as distinguished from shingler who is "doubling," i.e., hammering two balls at a time, "trebling," etc.
- shingler
; bloomer
- grasps one or more balls of wrought iron in pair of tongs and holds it under steam hammer or dx-op hammer, turning it over continually until as much slag as possible is squeezed out and the ball is shaped into rough bloom or bar ready for rolling.
- tilter
- a shingler q.v. who squeezes slag out of ball of puddled iron by holding it under hammer of tilt hammer; cf. filter (199), and (279).
