- dipper
; glazer
- dips biscuit ware, i.e. , after first firing, or bricks, stoneware, or other articles, in liquid glaze, and turns each article about to ensure glaze running evenly over surface; places dipped ware on dipping boards to dry before firing; sometimes specifically designated, e.g. , sanitary dipper, tile dipper, majolica dipper.
- dipper, clay tobacco pipe
- dips clay pipe in a kind of semi-glaze; cf. clay tobacco pipe varnisher (119).
- glazer
- see dipper.
- mottler
- gives a mottled appearance to ware, by applying coloured glazes thereto with a sponge.
- sagger washer, segger washer
- pours a little thin glaze, i.e. , sagger wash, into sagger, an open fireclay box in which ware is fired, and swills it round to coat inside: may use a stumping brush to apply glaze where necessary.
