drainage agent
plans schemes of drainage for fields by means of surface or underground channels, inspects the work being carried out by drainage labourers (026) (q.v.) or gives directions to drainage superintendent; usually a civil engineer or surveyor.
drainage assistant
assists drainage agent (q.v.) by surveying fields and drawing up plans of drainage schemes, or in superintending and inspecting the work done; duties usually performed by assistant engineer or surveyor.
drainage bailiff, drainage superintendent ; dyke reeve
patrols and superintends work done by drainage labourers (026) (q.v.) and instructs them as to the working and laying out of the plans made out by drainage agent (q.v.) or engineer; supervises sluice keepers (026) (q.v.).
