briar pipe stainer
stains bowl and stem of pipe, by hand, with cotton wool mop soaked in mixture of methylated spirits and aniline dyes.
polisher's stainer
a stainer (q.v.) who puts dull stain on white wood as a base for polish.
stainer, wood stainer, wood dyer
(i) colours wood by dipping it in stain and setting it to dry;
(ii) paints stain on wood to bring out grain or to imitate wood of another kind.
