- charge hand
- see painter's foreman.
- colourman
- pours certain quantities of dry colours from drums into other containers; adds turpentine, oil, white lead, etc., and stirs to obtain required consistency; paints with this mixture on a specially prepared board, called an approval board, which is shown o architect; usually also painter's foreman (q.v.).
- painter's foreman, painter's cod (slang)
; charge hand
- is in charge of painters (592) (q.v.), on a job, and is responsible for efficient carrying-on of work; usually also a colourman (q.v.); indicates, with chalk or otherwise, dividing line between colours, marks-out work on door panels, etc.; sometimes also keeps time records of painters; engages or discharges painters, as required, usually in consultation with general foreman (561) (q.v.), if such is employed.
