- linotype operator

- depresses keys of keyboard of linotype machine (each key corresponding with letter of alphabet or typographical sign), thereby assembling matrices of type in line, from which, when complete, line of type is automatically cast as a single bar of metal.
- monotype keyboard operator, monotype operator
- operates monotype machine by depressing keys of keyboard, thereby punching paper roll, which is used by monotype caster attendant (524) q.v.
- Stringer type machine operator
- a linotype operator q.v. working at a Stringer type machine.
- typographical operator
- a linotype operator q.v. operating typograph machine; re-distributes matrices periodically by raising a lever.
