bander (cigars) ; cigar labeller, cigar ringer, ringer (cigars)
wraps round centre of cigar a paper ring or band, bearing identification marks of brand; fastens band with gum.
bulker
stacks leaf tobacco, when moistened by tobacco liquorer (468) q.v. on special floor for maturing.
catcher, cigarette catcher ; cigarette machine receiver
gathers finished cigarettes from cigarette machine; weighs a given quantity from time to time to see that machine is maintaining standard weight; stacks cigarettes on racks ready for packing; throws out imperfect ones.
cigarette machine feeder
lays tobacco on travelling band of cigarette making machine, or in hopper which feeds machine automatically.
cigarette machine receiver

coach boy
wheels trucks of cigarettes from machines to storage racks.
cutter-off, cigarette cutter-off
cuts off, with scissors, loose ends of tobacco from hand-made cigarettes.
hogshead opener
see leaf room man.
labeller, cigar

leaf room man ; hogshead opener
opens hogsheads of tobacco and checks weight of contents.
picker-up
removes matured tobacco leaf from stacks made by bulker q.v., using a three-pronged fork to pitch the leaves into barrows for transport to cutting machines.

assists stover (468) q.v. in spreading dried tobacco thinly on canvas trays to cool.

places packing paper on travelling hand of packing machine, to meet tobacco travelling from tobacco machine weigher q.v.
tobacco machine weigher ; tobacco feeder-up
weighs tobacco, and places it on travelling band of packing machine for packeting.
tobacco spreader

weigher ; scaleman
weighs out tobacco in a bonded warehouse, in the presence of a revenue officer, before distribution to various departments.
