- coat maker (hand knitted coats)
- a hand frame work knitter q.v. who makes knitted coats; cf. coat maker (machine knitted coats) (374).
- crocheter, crochet worker
- (i) makes shawls, d'oyleys, lace, trimming, etc., by looping wool, silk or cotton thread with a hooked (crochet) needle by hand, according to pattern;
- (ii) operates a crocheting machine to make lace for hosiery garments, etc.; as for hand frame worker.
- hand frame work knitter
- hand frame worker, hand knitting machine worker; hand knitter, stockinger; sets up yarn in hand frame, by inserting bobbins and threading thread through guide, and operates it by turning a handle, or with treadles.
- hand knitter
- (i) knits by hand;
- (ii) see hand frame work knitter.
- hand splicer
- inserts extra bobbin into machine, so that knitting is strengthened at point where splice is required.
- jumper knitter
- knits ladies' jumpers by hand, or on a hand frame.
- stockinger
- see hand frame work knitter.
