- coater (wire)
- a dipper q.v. who dips coils of wire in zinc spelter; cf. wire galvaniser.
- dipper (galvanised sheet)
- supervises feeding of galvanising machine by. feeder (279) q.v.; regulates heating of pots; cleans pots (from time to time; may in small works himself feed sheets into machine.
- dipper (hollow-ware, wire goods, etc.)
; tanker
- takes metal article to be galvanised in tongs and immerses in a hath of zinc spelter; twists it about .to ensure equal coating; lifts out and shakes to remove excess of zinc; drops into bath of water.
- galvaniser
- (i) general term for any worker in galvanising works, including dipper, pickier (250), feeder (279) q.v.; sometimes specifically designated e.g. pipe galvaniser, tube galvaniser, wire galvaniser, wire netting galvaniser;
- (ii) obsolete term for charge hand responsible for both pickling and galvanising shops.
