Sub-order 7.—Fitters and Millwrights

212.—Millwrights

engine millwright: a millwright q.v. who erects engines in proper alignment with pulleys, shaftings, transmission plant, etc.; does not usually erect shafting, etc., but may do so.
mill attendant, rolling mill attendant: a millwright q.v. working in rolling mill; changes rolls with help of gantry or derrick and levels' up mills, using liners, i.e., strips of metal for packing under supports.
millwright: a highly skilled and specialised fitter (210) q.v. who sets up machines, engines, pulleys, shaftings, transmission gear, etc., having regard to friction, tension, vibration and other factors which aid or prevent efficient working of plant; term originated in corn mills, etc., where water power was used, when tasks of fitting, erecting, gear cutting, etc.j both in wood and metal now specialised, were performed by millwright.
rigger (rolling mills, tubes, etc.) ; roll shifter: erects and fits up rolls or mills used in manufacture of tubes, wire, etc.; dismantles worn rolls and remounts new rolls; sets rolls for new sized work.
